Romania was never on my radar as a possible destination for a weekend getaway. Compared to its neighbouring countries, Romania was always less attractive since there are no direct flights from Copenhagen. However, on a recent business trip I suddenly found myself standing on the main square of Iasi (pronounced Yachi), the old capital of Romania in the Northeastern corner of the country. Much to my surprise, the city is blessed with numerous stunning and well-maintained historic sites. So by way of Instagram, I unexpectedly ended up sparking a massive interest among my friends to visit the city and the country.
It was a four-day business trip, but one-and-a-half days were spent just for travelling. My flight from Copenhagen took 5-6 hours with a stop-over in Vienna and a 30 min. drive from Iasi airport to the office. Everyday I had meetings from 9:00 to 18:30 and business dinners until midnight. I barely had a chance to enjoy the city. But going to and from restaurants I managed to take took some really nice pictures.
Afterwards my friends bombarded me with questions. They were awestruck with the scenery. Most of them told me that they had never considered visiting Romania until seeing my pictures.
You don’t believe me? Here’s the proof! See below pictures from my Instagram.
P.S. If you are looking for a place to stay in Iasi, I highly recommend Hotel International Iasi 😉
