Late Lunch at Monterey

We drove from San Fransisco early in the morning and arrived at Monterey in the afternoon. There, we spent most of our time at the Old Fisherman’s Wharf. We had a late lunch at Loulou’s restaurant, ordering the dish of the day, which on that particular day was deep fried oysters and grilled salmon with salad and poached pears.

I haven’t had deep fried oysters before. But I was quite impressed with the crispiness of the crust outside and freshness of oyster inside. Just lovely! From this California trip, I’ve gotten the impression that main courses in the US most often are more than an average person can eat in one sitting. So at LouLou’s I asked the waitress to serve the grilled salmon into two small plates rather than one big one. Even so, I got plenty full even before finishing half of my portion.
